Sidle up and smile

They’ll come at you sideways.
It’s how they think. It’s how they move.
Sidle up and smile. Hit you where you’re weak.
Sort of man they’re like to send believes hard.
Kills and never asks why.

Talking Points vs Reality

SHOOTINGS SKYROCKET IN NYC…AND COPS BLAME OCCUPY WALL STREET

The crime statistics are in, and they are disturbing. In one week this month, there was an over 150% spike in New Yorkers shot, a jump from 22 to 56 over the same period last year. Overall, the number of New Yorkers hit by bullets was up almost 30 percent in the last month as compared to last year.

Why is no one screaming "BLOOD IN THE STREETS!!!"

Week in Review

Ed Morrissey and Duane Patterson going over the news of the week.

I am posting it because Ed has some very good points about Fast & Furious, which start around 1:05:00, but the whole show is worth your time.

Black Sunday (Blood in the Streets)

Other Peoples Mistakes

Posted at Ace of Spades HQ

You can take several things from this video.

Things I picked out:

When the little voice inside you head starts telling you "DON'T GO TO THIS PLACE CAUSE YOU CAN GET SHOT"- listen to it.

The gun is only identified as a shotgun. Law of averages would make it a 12 gauge loaded with birdshot (7/8/9). Regardless, he is very, very lucky to be alive. I'm not well versed on ballistics but it seems to be more chaos theory than science (I know). Point is any gun can fail, so plan accordingly.

When you get shot (shoot back{doesn't really apply for a 17 year old}) you can lay down and die or you can keep moving, keep fighting, keep living. If you want to make the point that a higher power was pushing him forward I would not fault you for it.  I may in fact be a miracle that he is alive.

He went to court and testified. Good.

Left Side

Finally took a pic of my Cold Steel AK-47 (old model) which is a very good for left hand carry.

Mind you I am not left handed. Well I write and shoot with my right hand, I throw and swing a sword (SCA) with my left.

I do fancy the notion that if you carry a pistol you should have a knife on the opposite side. If someone ever grabs for your gun, your dominant hand will be busy trying to keep the gun locked into the holster, and your off hand will be left the task of convincing said someone they have made some poor life choices.

BOOT the BATFE

Over a week ago, on NRA News, Katie Pavlich broke the story that the DOJ was spitballing the notion of throwing the ATF under the bus.

Now I know this would be a cynical ploy to stop the Fast & Furious scandal from reaching up the chain of command in DOJ or even the White House...

But, I would still call it a win.

Never Forget.

There are so many more reasons to disband the ATF. From Waco to Red's Trading Post.

Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership has been beating this drum for a long time. Click the link for their laundry list.

As a refresher go read Jack Cashill's 2007 eye opener:
What Al Sharpton Does Not Know About Waco

Truth be told, Waco represented the single greatest organized--if largely unwitting--slaughter of black people on American soil since the Battle of Fort Pillow in 1864.

OH HELL NO

I admit I'm not very good at boycotts.

Had to grab something at Walgreens last night and saw this on the door:

I'm not sure if they are being vindictive or just dense.

EDC K

This whole take the knife out of your pocket meme assumes you are wearing pants (but we will just skip over that part).

I have lots of knives (no idea how many) so I tend to rotate what I'm carrying.

But most of the time I will have a Cold Steel AK-47 (old model) on my left side.

not my photo

On the right side I change thing more, but the Byrd Cross Bill or Spyderco Harpy get carried a lot. (top and middle.)

bottom is my first flee market special

And I always have my ace in the hole.

NO SPYDERCARD FOR YOU!
Normally I'll have some kind of neck knife tied off inside my leather vest, (like the CS Spike or Mini-Tac or Para Edge) but not right now.

And I also have knives I carry inside the waistband but those don't count in this meme...

Stupid Question

Lucky the Black Panthers did not intimidate voters with an exotic wood baton.

Side Note: I wonder if the fish and game department bought Entry Shotguns for the raid like other departments?

Nobody asked me

A question was asked in comments of the article about the drop in crime in VA bars and restaurants.

Could you provide an authoritative interpretation of the phrase "well-regulated" ?
My answer.

What time is it? look at your microwave/ wall clock/ cable box/ watch/ phone. If they are in in sync then they are "well-regulated".
When the 2A was penned a militia was expected to muster together, drill together, march together, and fire volleys together.

A well regulated militia was better in combat, therefore the state was better secured.

That was off the cuff but in all honesty I most likely cribbed it from the likes of Dave Hardy or David E. Young.

You can't say that on television

Well it sure wouldn't fly in most major news rooms.

Another local news story (from 2008) about TDI with this jaw dropping line about gun free zones.

"And now the tacticians believe these signs may actually serve as an invitation to Mass murders."

At this time the youtube has 50 hits. I want to see how far the Gun Blogs can push it.

Edited to add:  I got to this story a few years late.  Googling I found a blogger who was on the ball, and has some info on how the story was received.

From Where I Sit  (Go read the whole thing)

We have received many requests about the source for our assertion that most mass murders have occurred in otherwise “gun free” zones.

Based on data from the SEALE study, an analysis by TDI, and our own painstaking research, we are able to say definitively that most “active killer” shootings have occurred in so-called “gun free” zones. The experts who say they may be “invitations” are also John Benner and Ron Borsch who have six decades of law enforcement experience and training between them.

Here is the print story.

Grandma Got run over by a debt ceiling

Ed Morrissey asked for it so don't blame me

Grandma Got run over by a debt ceiling

Vetoed by the White House a mid-sumer eve

You may think the trust fund still is solvent

the MSM tells lies that you believe

Last Night (Friday)

Last night I proved my theory that I enjoy ammunition more than I enjoy alcohol.  It is a test I run every couple of years.

I also enjoy my friend's music, and I made my first attempt at recording video with my Droid 2. Honestly I was impressed with my phone which has been passed up by many new models. I wasn't too shaky either.

And a photo from a few weeks back (maybe the best pic I have shot).

Stupid Drug Dealers

For the record.

If you are a member of an international criminal organization that receives large shipments of chemicals from China.

Cocaine shipments from Columbia.

And Heroin shipments from Afghanistan.

You would have to be a special kind of idiot to cross the US border in order to buy a semi-automatic rifle at retail prices, when any of your trading partners could easily toss in a few crates of fully automatic weapons as a cherry on top of your black market sundae.

Or maybe the DOJ thinks we are dumb enough to believe that the Drug Cartels are that stupid.

Yea or Nay

What would you recommend for a budget house gun?

Maybe for someone short in stature (but not status) who has a predilection for .45 ACP?

I have been wondering about the Hi-Point 4595 carbine?

 Stop Laughing...

I know Hi-Points have a reputation as a pot metal boat anchor, but I have also heard they go bang every time. A few year ago (wow it was 2002) Gun Test Magazine tested a 9mm carbine from Hi-Point and rated it a Best Buy.

Here are some links.

Firearms Blog on the 45

Gun Blast on the 9

And a video review.

Edit: Down side is the 4595 is heavy 7.5lbs and low capacity 9 rds.

This is interesting, or it would be if you could share mags between a        1911 and 4595. There are 15 rd 1911 mags...

So what da ya think? Yea or Nay? (This is the part where you comment.)

Free Advice

Anybody want to grade my work, as I have never shot an H&K or a Makarov?

I want to get a CCW, and it is possible now where I live.
Advice needed:
I have two candidates for carry, an HK USP Compact in 9mm and a Makarov in 9X18. Which would be the best choice? The HK is more powerful, but the Mak is slimmer. In our CCW permit system, you have to list the pistol you will be carrying, as well as qualify on it, so I have to decide soon.
pds
Makarov is fine for what it is, BUT it is like you are asking should I drive a BMW or a Yugo.
Wiki says the Mak is not drop safe.
Can you get the safety off on the Mak under pressure??? (you could carry it DA safety off)
It can be hard to find defense ammo for the Mak, CCI Blazer has some Gold Dot JHPs.
H&K will have better sights, better trigger, more ammo, and better ammo selection, and I think 9mm ammo is a bit cheaper.
Weight and length are very close.

I love it when Hot Air devolves into gun talk.

EDIT: I am assuming They own these two guns...
