Herman Cain and Gun Control

Breda told me I need to write something to get people to comment.

Funny thing is I seem to write better on Hot Air that on my blog.

My friend Jazz Shaw has a post about a CNN interview in which Herman Cain Answers a query that he is OK with state level gun control laws.

And I'm OK with Herman Cain.

Here is my comment in Full.

Well I am a pretty big gun nut (Jazz knows that). I even just started a gun blog.
And I am perfectly happy with Cain’s statement.
Most states have 2A language in there constitution.
Those that do not can pass all the gun control they want. I’m just not going anywhere near them.
Those states will become poster children for growing crime and shrinking populations. If things get bad enough we can wall them off and forget about them (Jazz, AP you really need to move).
McDonald v Chicago laid ground work, but the work is not finished. Alan Gura will finish it.
Gura will win in court.
Gun control will lose in court.
Gun control will lose in state legislature. It will lose in public polling. It will lose in pop culture. Gun control will lose on Mythbusters, and Pawn Stars, and PS3, and Xbox.
We are winning everywhere except in big city news rooms.
And I’m OK with that.
(Minor quibble: state laws need to be uniform. local governments should not not be able to make you a felon for driving through.)

Edited to add more from Hot Air:

Then why do I still have to carry my CCW license?
J D
Well you have Vermont carry which became
Alaska/ Vermont carry which became
Alaska/ Vermont/ Arizona Carry…

What Herman Cain should have said is:
That gun control should be a state’s decision passing muster of the SCOTUS.
Herman Cain is running for POTUS not Governor and not Judge.

Alan Gura is not done yet.
we shall fight on the beaches,
we shall fight on the landing grounds,
we shall fight in the fields and in the streets,
we shall fight in the hills;
we shall never surrender

At the end of the day Wolf Blitzer asked a stupid question of a Presidential candidate.

  1. I would certainly rather leave it in state hands than federal. At least you have to option of moving to "better" state if the one you're in becomes onerous.

  3. Unfortunately Campus Carry and Open Carry failed in Texas on this go around, but hopefully in 2 years.

  4. "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

Either there is text missing from this or Cain got it wrong. Abbrogation of the rights in this amendment are not allowed by any level of government; shall not be infringed. Period.

  5. So the 2A has been incorporated by SOTUS and you can go buy a gun in DC (or Chicago)... No wait you can't do that.

So there is still work to do in the other two branches of gov. Not the White House.
